Arieus Fitch of South Shore man has been charged with fatally shooting Raheem Dameron and wounding another teenage boy over the Memorial Day weekend in Bronzeville.

Fitch, 20, faces a first-degree murder charge for the attack that happened about 8:20 p.m. on May 24 in the 4400 block of South Cottage Grove, Chicago Police announced Sunday morning.

Prosecutors said Fitch was seeking revenge for an earlier shooting.

The boys, ages 14 and 15, were outside when someone fired shots from a light-colored sedan, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.

The older boy, later identified as Dameron, was dead at the scene with gunshot wounds to the back, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Dameron lived in the 5600 block of South Justine, authorities said.

The younger boy was shot in the ankle and taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where his condition stabilized, police said.

Fitch was denied bond during a court hearing Sunday. He was next scheduled to appear in court Monday.

The two boys were among 12 people killed and at least 43 others wounded during a bloody Memorial Day weekend.
