Ricardo C. Mendez-Bucio was fatally shot Thursday afternoon while sitting in a car at a gas station in the Brighton Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side.
The 18-year-old was sitting in a vehicle in the 4700 block of South Western at 2:54 p.m. when someone walked up and fired shots, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. The shooting happened at a gas station on the block.
Mendez-Bucio, of the 4500 block of South Paulina, was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he died at 3:32 p.m., authorities said. An autopsy Friday found he died of a gunshot wound to the chest and ruled his death a homicide.
Police are investigating whether the incident was gang-related.
