Walker, 46, was crossing the street in the 6500 block of South Laflin when he was struck by a black car traveling south about 9:30 p.m. June 2, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Walker, of the 6400 block of South Bishop, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 10:37 p.m., authorities said.
The car sped away after the crash, but was found parked and unoccupied a short time later in the 6500 block of South Laflin, according to police.
Jackson, of the 11600 block of South Racine, was later identified as the driver of the black 2002 Nissan Altima that fatally struck Walker, according to authorities.
He was initially charged with one count each of reckless homicide and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, police said.
