Bons set at $1.5 million for teen charged in Austin fatal shooting

Bond was set at $1.5 million for an 18-year-old man charged with murder for a shooting that left one man dead and another injured last month in the West Side Austin neighborhood. Markeas Brown
Markeas Brown, 18, of the 5500 block of west Corcoran Place, is charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder for an Aug. 17 shooting in the 0-100 block of South Parkside Avenue, authorities said.
The victims were standing in front of an apartment building about 11:30 a.m. when the suspect and a second shooter approached on bicycles and asked their gang affiliation, police said. They then pulled guns and shot the victims, police said.
Daquan Boyd, 18, who lived in the same block, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. The other victim was taken to a hospital in “stable” condition with a gunshot wound to the hand, police said.
Brown was arrested Monday after being identified in a line-up by the surviving victim, authorities said. His bond was set Tuesday at $1.5 million.
The second shooter has not yet been arrested as Area North detectives continue to investigate.
