Police: 1 dead, 4 wounded, in one hour

One man is dead and four others were wounded Thursday evening, following one bloody hour of South Side gun violence.
A 36-year-old man who was shot in the South Side Auburn Gresham neighborhood died about an hour later, after he was rushed to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
The man, whose identity was not released pending notification of his family, was in the 7700 block of South Sangamon Avenue when gunfire tore through his chest about 6:50 p.m., police said.
Meanwhile, on the Southwest Side, two men in their 20s were shot in the 3800 block of West 57th Place about 6:50 p.m. police said.
One of the men, shot in the abdomen, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in “stable” condition, police said. The other man suffered a graze wound to the thigh.
The violence began about 6:35 p.m. in Englewood, when a teenage boy was shot in the foot in the 700 block of West 72nd Street, police said. His exact age was not immediately available.
The boy, who told officers he heard shots and felt pain, was taken in good condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
The violent hour was capped off about 7:15 p.m., when a 28-year-old man was shot in the abdomen area in the 5700 block of South Aberdeen Street, police said.
No one was in custody for any of the shootings as detectives investigated Thursday night.
