Fiancee facing firearms charges after Garvin Whitmore shot to death in car in Fuller Park

Bond was set at $250,000 for a woman charged with returning fire her fiance, Garvin Whitmore, was shot to death Saturday evening in the South Side Fuller Park neighborhood.

Ashley Harrison, 26, was sitting in a the driver's seat with the 27-year-old Whitmore in the passenger seat about 5:20 p.m. in the 200 block of West Root. Then someone walked up to the vehicle and shot Whitmore in the head, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Whitmore, of the 5800 block of West 63rd Place, was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:29 p.m., the medical examiner’s office said.

Harrison got out of the vehicle, retrieved a weapon and fired it several times in the air as the shooter ran away. She then threw the weapon to the ground, according to court records.

Harrison, a mother of two from Aurora, was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm, and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon without an FOID card, according to police.

Judge Adam Donald Bourgeois Jr. ordered her held on a $250,000 bond. She is next scheduled to appear in court Friday, according to the Cook County sheriff’s office.

No one was in custody for the homicide as of Sunday morning, police said.
