A 17-year-old boy has been charged with fatally shooting Devonte Pearson in Englewood nearly three years ago.
The boy was arrested Tuesday and charged as a juvenile with first-degree murder, according to Chicago Police.
About 8:45 p.m. on July 16, 2013, the 20-year-old Pearson was sitting on a porch in the 5700 block of South Carpenter, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
A group of males ran by and the suspect opened fire, police said. The boy then ran away.
Pearson, who lived on the same block where the shooting happened, died three days later at Stroger Hospital on July 19, 2013, authorities said.
Police said the boy has been positively identified as the shooter.
He is scheduled to appear in juvenile court for a custody hearing on June 16.
