Marwan Sadeq, who had moved his family from Yemen escape the violence there, was shot to death early Thursday outside the Park Manor neighborhood gas station where he worked.

The 45-year-old Sadeq was arguing with a man about 12:40 a.m. in the parking lot of the Citgo station in the 6600 block of South State Street when shots were fired, according to Chicago Police.

Sadeq was shot in the head, and was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:01 a.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 10600 block of South Parkside Avenue in south suburban Chicago Ridge.

The parking lot was taped off, and the body could be seen on the ground outside the front glass door, which was stained with blood.

A witness named Terrell, who would not give his last name, said he was buying food inside the station when he heard an argument outside.

He then heard three shots and saw the victim “trying to run in the door, but he couldn’t open the door and he just collapsed right there where he’s at.”

Another employee of the gas station, Ahmed Awadh, who was also inside when the shots rang out, said the victim had moved from Yemen and had worked at the station for about two months. “He was a nice guy. Had a family, four kids … It’s sad.”

Sadeq had ended his shift about an hour earlier, but returned to the station for some reason.

“We don’t know what the f--- happened,” Awadh said. “Why did he get killed? Why did he deserve [this]?”

Police are reviewing video surveillance of the murder scene.
