Devon R. Reavley and Paul Hamilton were shot to death near an Englewood neighborhood park Monday evening.

About 7:15 p.m. near Ogden Park in the 1200 block of West Marquette, Hamilton, 47, was walking his dog when someone in a vehicle started shooting, striking him in the chest, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The shots also struck the 24-year-old Reavley in the chest as he ran away from the gunfire. Police said the shots were fired from Elizabeth Street and into the park, where the victims were struck on Black Drive west of the tennis courts.

Both men were taken to Stroger Hospital, authorities said. Hamilton, of the 6600 block of South Loomis, died at 8:01 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office. Reavley died at 8:40 p.m. He lived in the 9600 block of South Calumet.

It was unclear if either of the victims were intended targets.

A witness who asked to remain anonymous said he was playing basketball north of the shooting scene when he heard the gunshots.

“When I heard the shots, I thought my little brother was down here playing … and we ran over here,” said the man, who said he knew the younger victim. “His brother is dying of cancer and so he was just trying to eat some barbecue with his family today — and that just happened.

“He was just standing with the wrong crowd,” the man said. “He ain’t no gangbanger … he’s got a daughter.”
