Charles Smith and Dequan Trimble killed in Lawndale drive-by shooting that left three other people wounded

Dequan Trimble and Charles Smith, both 22, were killed, and three other people were wounded in a shooting Monday night in the Lawndale neighborhood.

About 10:45 p.m., the group was standing on the sidewalk in the 2700 block of West Lexington when someone in a silver minivan opened fire, according to Chicago Police.

Smith was shot in the chest and and thigh, and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 2700 block of Harvey Avenue in Berwyn.

Trimble was shot in the torso, and was also taken to Stroger, where he was pronounced dead at 11:19 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 2700 block of West Polk.

Three other people were also shot and taken to Mount Sinai, police said. A 16-year-old boy was shot in the chest, and was listed in critical condition; a 17-year-old boy suffered a gunshot wound to the chest, and was in serious condition; and a 20-year-old man was shot in the right arm and buttocks, and was also listed in serious condition.
