Danny Darling died Saturday, the third death linked to an August fire at a Back of the Yards neighborhood home, which Chicago Police have ruled an arson.

Darling, 58, was pronounced dead at 11:15 a.m. Saturday at Stroger Hospital. He was injured in the Aug. 27 fire at his home in the 5400 block of South Laflin, according to the Chicago Fire Department and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

An autopsy Sunday found he died of complications from thermal injuries from the house fire, and his death was ruled a homicide.

Two more people were found dead after the fire was extinguished about 2 a.m., fire officials said at the time. They were identified as 61-year-old Tommie Darling, who also lived in the home; and 55-year-old Doris Anderson, whose home address was unknown.

Autopsies did not rule on their causes or manners of death, with results pending further studies.

Investigators with CPD’s Bomb and Arson Unit determined someone intentionally started the fire, and have classified the case as a homicide investigation, police said Saturday. No one is in custody.
