Autopsy: James Gerage of Barrington Hills, found dead in burning SUV, was victim of assault

On Thursday, the northwest suburban resident's death was ruled a homicide.

Chicago Fire Dept. crews responded at 7:48 p.m. Sept. 23 to a fire report near 21st and Jefferson, according to Chicago Police and fire officials.

The body was found in the back seat of the SUV once the fire was extinguished, according to fire officials and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

An autopsy found Gerage, who lived in the 100 block of Remington Drive in Barrington Hills, died of multiple injuries due to an assault, the medical examiner’s office announced Thursday. His death was ruled a homicide,

Area Central detectives are investigating, but no suspects are in custody.
