In November 2011, someone in a passing vehicle shot 31-year-old Carlos Williams in the head as he walked along the 2500 block of East 75th Street in the South Shore neighborhood. Five years later, he died from that injury.

A Williams died last month, almost five years to the day after he was shot, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Williams was outside about 8:30 p.m. Nov. 18, 2011, in the 2500 block of East 75th Street when he was shot, according to Chicago Police and the medical examiner’s office. He was shot in the head and was initially taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious condition, police said at the time.

Williams, 36, was pronounced dead at 3:57 p.m. Nov. 19 at the long-term rehabilitation center in west suburban Elmwood Park where he’d been living, authorities said. An autopsy found he died of complications from the gunshot wound and ruled his death a homicide.

Police could not immediately provide an update on the investigation Tuesday night.
