WEEK IN REVIEW: After three found shot to death in car on Monday, week ends with total of 7 homicides

CrimeScene-LCN-040213-1.jpgA week that started out with three people being found with fatal gunshot wounds in a car parked on the South Side ended with only three more fatal shootings. And the death of a man who had been shot several months earlier brought the week's death toll from Chicago violence to seven.

The three men were found Monday morning in a car parked illegally in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood. The bodies were found at 7:35 a.m. in an alley in the 8600 block of South Throop, according to Chicago Police. However, police said it was not known how long the bodies had been there.

Vogels T. Anderson Jr., 20, was shot in the head; Ryan Hamilton, 20, was shot in the neck; and Devontae Watson, 18, was shot multiple times, according to the Cook COunty medical examiner's office.

Anderson and Watson lived in the Southwest Side Ashburn neighborhood, whiled Hamilton lived in south suburban Blue Island. Police said Hamilton had been reported missing the previous evening, and the bodies were found in his vehicle.

  • The week's final fatal incident left one man dead and another wounded Saturday night in Englewood, police said. Ishmael Jackson, 23, was standing in the backyard of a home with a 27-year-old man at 10:44 p.m. in the 5600 block of South Elizabeth when another male opened fire, according to police and the medical examiner’s office.

    Jackson was shot in the back and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:51 p.m., authorities said. He lived in south suburban Robbins. The 27-year-old suffered a gunshot wound to the “face area,” and was also taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

  • A 17-year-old boy was found shot to death Friday evening in the Marquette Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side. Titus Jackson was discovered unresponsive at 6:23 p.m. in the 7100 block of South Washtenaw with gunshot wounds to the chest, leg and buttocks, according to police and the medical examiner’s office. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:36 p.m., authorities said. He lived in the Lawndale neighborhood.
  • A 32-year-old man was killed and a 42-year-old woman wounded earlier Friday in an East Garfield Park neighborhood shooting at a West Side motorcycle club. About 2:30 a.m., Charles Luckett and the woman were inside the Midnight Riders Clubhouse at 3808 W. Chicago Ave. when someone opened fire, according to police and the medical examiner’s office.

    They were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where Luckett died of a gunshot wound to the chest at 4:28 a.m., authorities said. He lived in the neighborhood. The woman was shot in the ankle and was listed in good condition, police said. No one was in custody for the shooting.

  • The week's other homicide involved a25-year-old man who was shot last month in the Calumet Heights neighborhood on the South Side. About 10 p.m. on Feb. 22, Donovan Swint was a passenger in a vehicle traveling in the 9100 block of South Oglesby when he heard shots and realized he’d been hit in the back, according to police and the medical examiner’s office.

    He was taken to Trinity Hospital and later transferred to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 3:47 p.m. Thursday, authorities said. An autopsy Friday ruled his death a homicide. No one was in custody for the shooting.
