Less than two years ago, Laquan Allen survived being shot in the thigh. But on Saturday afternoon, the 14-year-old was shot to death in a drive-by attack while walking in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side.
Just after 3 p.m., the boy was on the sidewalk near Hubbard Park's playground in the 4900 block of West Hubbard when someone fired shots from a passing vehicle, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
The McNair Academic Center student suffered a gunshot wound to the buttocks, and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:34 p.m., according to authorities. He lived in the West Humboldt Park neighborhood.
Area North detectives are investigating.
