One man was ordered held without bond Wednesday, and another was jailed in lieu of $2 million in a would-be robbery and shooting Monday in Chicago Lawn that claimed the life of a 23-year-old man.

Christopher Lang was gunned down around midnight as he walked on the sidewalk in the 3400 block of West 72nd Place. Lang, who lived less than two blocks from there, died hours later at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn of a gunshot wound to the torso.

Daquon E. Renfro, 19, and Antonio Cox, 20, approached Lang, saying they wanted to buy marijuana, but then pulled a gun and tried to rob him, Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney Maura White said in court Wednesday.

Renfro then shot Lang, who was able to call 911 as the men took off in a car driven that pulled up after the shooting, according to White.

The police found the car Lang described and, as they approached it, someone inside tossed a gun out the window — the gun used in the shooting, White said.

Officers pulled over the car and arrested Renfro and Cox, who are charged with murder and attempted robbery with a firearm,

On Wednesday, a judge ordered Renfro held without bail. Bail for Cox was set at $2 million.
