Dayvy Rivas was standing on a porch in the West Side Austin neighborhood Monday night when a fight broke out nearby. Shots were fired and Rivas was struck in the head. He died several hours later.
Rivas, 43, was on the porch of a home in the 300 block of North Lorel about 11:10 p.m., Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.
Three people came out of a nearby gangway and started fighting, police said. During the fight, one of the people involved took out a gun and shot Rivas, who remained on the porch, authorities said.
He suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he died at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, police said.
Rivas lived in the Northwest Side Belmont Cragin neighborhood.
No suspects were in custody as Area North detectives investigate.
