A man gunned down early Sunday in Brighton Park has been identified as 30-year-old Benjamin "Benji" Robles, a husband and father from the Southwest Side Clearing neighborhood.
Robles was in a vehicle about 5:10 a.m., stopped at a light in the 3800 block of South Archer, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Another vehicle approached and someone inside fired multiple shots, police said.
Robles suffered gunshot wounds to the head, neck and arm; and subsequently crashed his vehicle, authorities said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
He lived in the Southwest Side Clearing neighborhood.
A GoFundMe page set up to help the family with expenses had raised more than $10,000 toward a $15,000 goal in just one day.
The page's author called Robles "the most loving father, husband, son, and friend." The Curie High graduate worked at Bob's Discount Furniture, and leaves behind a wife and 3-year-old son.
A friend wrote on Facebook: "I don't think I ever saw Benji without that smile on his face and it truly made you feel at ease and in a better mood."
Visitation and wake will be conducted from 2-8 p.m. Saturday, August 26, at Mount Auburn Funeral Home, 4101 S Oak Park Ave. in Stickney. Funeral services begins at 10 a.m. Sunday.
