Felipe Batista Jr. was killed and another wounded in a shooting Sunday night just a block from his home in the Belmont Central neighborhood on the Northwest Side.
Batista, 26; and a 29-year-old man were standing on the sidewalk about 10:40 p.m. in the 5900 block of West Belden, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
A male suspect walked up and opened fire, police said.
Batista was shot in the torso, and was pronounced dead at the scene less than 20 minutes later, authorities said. He lived about a block away from the shooting.
The older man was shot in the abdomen and was taken in critical condition to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, police said.
No one was in custody as of Tuesday morning.
