Catherine Barnett was killed and two other people were wounded in a shooting Sunday evening on the block where she lived in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood.
Another person who lived on the Southwest Side block was also shot to death a few hours earlier on the South Side.
About 8:20 p.m., three people were sitting inside a parked vehicle in the 6000 block of South Richmond, according to Chicago Police.
That's when a man got out of a silver vehicle nearby and fired shots, police said.
Barnett, 42, was struck in the head and was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:35 p.m., police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.
A 37-year-old man was shot in the chest, and was taken in serious condition to Stroger Hospital, police said.
A bullet grazed a third person in the nose, but that person refused medical treatment and was "uncooperative with officers," police said.
Barnett lived on the block where she was shot. Just a few hours earlier, another man who lived on the same block, Jesse A. Bennett, was shot to death several miles away in the South Shore neighborhood.
It was unknown if the shootings were connected.
