When Kendre Davis walked through the door of his Austin apartment it was easy to tell when his next meal was on his mind.
“He would always come through the door talking about food with my dad,” said cousin Tammi Woods. “He had a huge appetite and was a big eater.”
Davis, 27, was fatally shot about 1:25 a.m. Wednesday in the 3900 block of West Congress Parkway in the West Garfield Park neighborhood, authorities said.
Police found Davis, of the 400 block of South Lockwood Avenue, dead on the ground with a gunshot wound to the head, authorities said.
Davis, who liked playing dominoes and spades, always had a smile on his face and enjoyed spending time with his family, great aunt Patricia Johnson said.
“He was a well-going person, never had any problems with anyone,” Johnson said. “He loved coming over and being with family, playing cards.”
Woods said she would remember her cousin as a family man with a spirit of humility.
“He was a fun, loving guy,” Woods said. “He would give you his last dime if he could.”
Davis had a 4-year-old son and a baby on the way, his family said.
Davis was out on bond awaiting trail for felony manufacturing and delivery of marijuana charges stemming from a 2011 arrest. He was also arrested in December 2013 and charged with misdemeanor possession of cannabis, according to court records.
Nobody has been charged in the murder and Area North detectives are still investigating.
