WEEK IN REVIEW: Six killed in Chicago as temperature drops

At least six people were killed in Chicago the week of Nov. 27-Dec. 3, including a man gunned down in the Back of Yards neighborhood.CrimeScene-LCN-040213-1.jpg

Tra'don Sanders, 19, was shot Sunday afternoon in the 5000 block of South Winchester at 2:10 p.m. when someone walked up and fired multiple times, according to police and the medical examiner’s office.

Sanders, who lived nearby, was shot in the neck and head and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where  he was pronounced dead within an hour, authorities said.

    A man was shot to death Saturday afternoon in the Northwest Side
    Cragin neighborhood. Isiah Hope High, 20, was riding a bicycle at 1:17 p.m. in the 2600 block of North Long when someone in a minivan fired shots, striking him in the chest, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. He was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 2:02 p.m., authorities said. He lived a block from where he was shot. Area North detectives were investigating.

  • Amery Shannon was shot to death Friday night in the South Side Bridgeport neighborhood, police said. At 8:34 p.m., officers responding to a call of shots fired in the 400 block of West 38th Place found the 38-year-old Shannon with a gunshot wound to his neck in the 500 block of West Pershing, Chicago Police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office said. Shannon was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead within the hour, authorities said. He lived in the Bronzeville neighborhood. The medical examiner’s office said he died of multiple gunshot wounds and his death was ruled a homicide. Area Central detectives were investigating.
  • A 42-year-old man was shot to death Friday afternoon in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side. Curley L. Harvey was traveling east in a vehicle at 2:29 p.m. in the 3600 block of West Jackson when someone in a silver sedan pulled up and fired shots, striking him in the head, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Harvey was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:04 p.m., authorities said. He lived in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side. An autopsy found he died of multiple gunshot wounds, and his death was ruled a homicide.
  • A 20-year-old man was fatally wounded Tuesday evening in a South Shore neighborhood shooting. At 6:06 p.m., Juan Jerome William Mason-Perry was walking in the 2700 block of East 76th Street when someone walked up to him, fired shots and ran off, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He was struck multiple times and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said. He lived in the Woodlawn neighborhood.
  • A man was shot to death during an argument Monday morning in the Grand Crossing neighborhood on the South Side. Dontae Simmons, 29, was arguing with someone who then shot him in the face about 9 a.m. in the 1100 block of East 73rd Street, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Simmons, who lived in the Washington Park neighborhood, was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 10:13 a.m., authorities said. An autopsy Tuesday found Simmons died of multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
