A man and a teenager were killed, and at least 7 other people were hurt in shootings across the city Wednesday afternoon. A 9-year-old boy was among the wounded.
The boy was shot in the chest about 5:30 p.m. in the 6700 block of South Evans Avenue, police said. His uncle said the boy was 9 years old.
The boy was in critical condition at University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital, police said.
As family members left the hospital, the boy’s mother responded to questions by reporters about the boy’s condition, saying, “He’s fine.”
A fire department spokesman said paramedics did not take the boy to the hospital. Authorities said the boy’s parents may have driven him there for treatment.
A separate gang-related shooting left one teenage boy dead, and another seriously hurt in the Southwest Side Gage Park neighborhood.

Clark was standing on a porch on the Far South Side when a shooter approached from an alley and shot him twice in the back. Clark, of the 11600 block of South Harvard Avenue, was pronounced dead at Christ Medical Center several hours later.
Other non-fatal shootings across the city left 4 other people hurt, including three people wounded in a single gang-related attack in West Pullman neighborhood on the Far South Side.
They were standing in a group near 123rd Street and Emerald Avenue about 7:25 p.m., when three shooters came out of an alley and shot all three of them, police said.
A 25-year-old woman was shot in the right thigh, a 41-year-old man was shot in the left thigh and a 33-year-old man was shot in the abdomen, police said. All three were in “stable” condition at area hospitals.
A separate shooting in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood also wounded a man about 7:40 p.m. The 48-year-old was shot in the arm and leg in the 6100 block of South California Avenue and taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in “stable” condition, police said.
