Austin man killed; 11 others wounded in Friday shootings

One man is dead and at least eleven other people have been wounded in shootings on the South and West sides since Friday afternoon.

McGregory Porter, 24, was shot in the eye and another man was shot in the abdomen during an altercation late Friday in the West Side Austin neighborhood, authorities said.

The shooting happened about 11 p.m. in the 5500 block of West Quincy Street, police said.

Porter, of the 5900 block of West Iowa Street, was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he died at 11:34 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

A 23-year-old man was also wounded and listed in “stable” condition at Mount Sinai Hospital.

The most recent non-fatal shooting happened at 6:07 a.m. Saturday in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood, when a man was shot in the arm at West 76th Street and South Ashland Avenue, police said. Information on the man’s condition was not immediately available.

In a separate incident early Saturday, two people were wounded in the Austin neighborhood.

The two were standing outside in the 0-100 block of North LeClaire Avenue about 12:45 a.m. when a man “heard shots and felt pain,” police said. The 22-year-old was taken in “stable” condition to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood. A 19-year-old woman was shot in the thigh and taken in “stable” condition to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park.

A few minutes earlier, a man was shot about 12:40 a.m. in the North Lawndale neighborhood.

He was walking in the 1500 block of South St. Louis Avenue when he was approached by a group of males and shot in the back, police said. The man, 31, was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in “stable” condition.

About 10:40 p.m. Friday, a man was shot in the 2800 block of South Kedvale Avenue in the South Lawndale neighborhood.

A 23-year-old man was shot in the buttocks and taken in good condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, police said.

About 9:50 p.m. Friday, two men were shot in the 300 block of West 106th Place in the Roseland neighborhood, police said. A 32-year-old man was shot in the shoulder and taken in “stable” condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, police said. Another man, 35, suffered a graze wound to the arm and was treated on the scene.

About 6:50 p.m. Friday, a man was shot in the toe in the West Englewood neighborhood, police said. The 22-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the toe and was taken in good condition to Holy Cross Hospital.

About 3:30 p.m. Friday, two people were shot in a possible drive-by on the South Side, police said.

A man and a woman — both 19 — were in the 9300 block of South Stewart when shots were fired, police said. Two bullets struck the woman in the leg and the man was struck in the backside and the torso.

Both were taken in “stable” condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
