Jordan Harris was killed and five other people were shot at a house party early Saturday in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.
The six were all shot about 1:10 a.m. Saturday at a party in a two-flat in the 4300 block of West Wilcox Street, police said.
Partygoers were standing on a second-floor back porch when someone began firing shots at them from the alley, according to police News Affairs Officer Janel Sedevic.
When the people began running inside, a person opened fire from the front entrance of the building, Sedevic said.
Harris, 24, of the 3000 block of West Jackson Boulevard, was shot in the throat and taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County where he later died, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
A 23-year-old man shot in the shoulder and back was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, police said.
A 32-year-old man was shot in the abdomen and taken to Mount Sinai in “stable” condition, and a 27-year-old woman shot in the foot also was taken to Mount Sinai but in good condition, police said.
Another woman, 25, was shot in the buttocks and also taken to Stroger Hospital. She was listed in “stable” condition, police said. A 43-year-old man was shot in the foot and taken to Rush University Medical Center in good condition.
Between 2 and 3 a.m., several dozen people gathered outside Stroger Hospital, many of whom were crying after learning of the death of the 24-year-old man. One man was pacing through the parking lot, crying and screaming “He’s f–ing dead!” into his cell phone.
