17-year-old Jeremy Salinas was shot to death while retrieving his stolen bicycle Wednesday night in the Bridgeport neighborhood, according to witnesses at the scene.

Salinas was shot about 8:35 p.m. in the 900 block of West 32nd Place, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Salinas, who lived in the 1200 block of West 31st Place, was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:55 p.m., authorities said.

Witnesses said he was retrieving his bicycle, which had been stolen earlier in the day, when he was shot. The teen was with four other people when he was shot, one witness said.

About three dozen people gathered on the east side of the intersection of 32nd Place and Halsted, many crying and saying they were friends or family of the dead teen. Nearby fireworks could be heard every few minutes.

A group of about 12 people became upset with police as investigators processed the scene, asking why the teen’s body was not taken away by an ambulance and instead left at the scene.

One officer gathered them on the northeast corner of 32nd Place and Halsted, and told them emergency personnel could not have saved him.

“When you see that ambulance not make a move, it’s because they can’t do anything. Whatever happened has happened. We can’t change it. It’s not that we’re not doing anything; we’re trying to do something,” he said. “If you know more to the story than we know, then please step forward and say something.”

Detectives are investigating whether the incident was gang-related.

Wednesday night’s homicide was Bridgeport’s third since May 22.

Mario Ortega, 20; and Joshua Johnson, 23, approached Sandoval after he parked his car in the 1900 block of North Spaulding Avenue around 2 a.m. on Dec. 12, 2013, coming home from his job at a bakery, according to Cook County court documents. Prosecutors said Ortega, also known as “King Krazy,” and Johnson are both Latin Kings.

Ortega ran up behind Sandoval and began to punch him repeatedly “without provocation” while Johnson held him down and went through his pockets, according to prosecutors. Witnesses reported hearing Sandoval screaming for help.

After he finished beating Sandoval, Ortega stood over the man–who was “still lying on the ground writhing in pain”–and fired several shots at him, prosecutors said. Sandoval was struck four times in the chest and body.

Ortega was arrested about 10 hours after the shooting on an unrelated narcotics charge and was later charged with murder for a 2012 shooting in the Humboldt Park neighborhood, prosecutors said. In that incident, he was charged with shooting a man to death in the 4600 block of West Ohio on Sept. 20, 2012. He has remained in custody ever since.

He is now charged with the murder and attempted armed robbery of Sandoval, according to prosecutors.

Johnson was charged with murder and attempted robbery last month when he appeared in court in Rolling Meadows on an unrelated case, the Chicago Sun-Times reported at the time.

A person who personally knows both suspects witnessed the shooting from a parked car nearby and identified Ortega and Johnson, prosecutors said. The crime was also captured on surveillance video from a local bar.

A friend whose home the two suspects were at before and after the shooting also gave police a statement, prosecutors said, and Johnson admitted he struck Sandoval and held him down while Ortega shot him.

Both men are being held without bond, according to the Cook County sheriff’s office. Johnson was expected to appear in court Friday, while Ortega’s next court date is scheduled for July 9 in Skokie.

David Martinez Jr. was killed and another man was wounded in a drive-by shooting early Sunday in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side, police said.

The two men were standing on the corner in the 4400 block of South Honore about 12:30 a.m. when a red SUV and a light car pulled up and the occupants fired shots, police said.

Martinez, 40, of the 4500 block of South Washtenaw, was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

A 38-year-old man was shot in the neck and taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

People who knew Martinez gathered under sheets of rain at the scene, some arguing with police about why his body was still on scene an hour after the shooting.

“You don’t know how big that bullet hole is. His heart could save someone,” a crying woman told a police officer behind crime scene tape. “His lungs could save someone, his liver.”

Friends of Martinez said he had been released from a three-year prison stint a couple months ago.

Carmen Galzan, 37, said she had grown up with the victim in the neighborhood and described him as a “silly” and “funny” friend. She said he had been gang-affiliated since he was a kid.

“He just came out of jail, and he was just tired,” Galzan said. “He was just tired of living this life.”

Galzan saw the man two weeks ago and had suggested he come to their local church, which she said had helped some other friends leave behind gang life. She wasn’t expecting to get a call from him Wednesday showing interest in the service — the same man who would “make fun of us when we tried to preach him” about straightening up.

“I didn’t think he had really acknowledged what I had told him about coming to church with me,” Galzan said. “When he called me on Wednesday night, it was a really nice feeling because he was like, ‘Hey Carmen, remember the church you told me about? How about if I go with you and we could hang out?’”

He called her before the service started on Wednesday night to say he would be late, Galzan said, but he never showed up. She suspects “he got caught up drinking” or hanging out with old friends.

She said she was going to call him Sunday to check up on him.

He left behind a 12-year-old daughter, Galzan said. She said her neighborhood has been praying for him.

As Galzan spoke under a porch to avoid the downpour, a sobbing woman approached police, screaming to be let through the tape to the body. Officers held her back to console her.

Galzan said it was unfortunate her friend didn’t get the message on time that life could be better, but then stopped herself.

“Actually, he did get the message on time, but he didn’t get to be saved on time.”

Clifton Frye dies two weeks after shooting over Facebook comments about slain rapper

Clifton Frye has died of gunshot wounds that prosecutors said he suffered at the hand of a teenager upset by the man’s disparaging Facebook comments about recently slain rapper Young Pappy.

The rapper, whose real name is Shaquon Thomas, was gunned down on early May 29 in Uptown. Four days later, 17-year-old Germel Dossie allegedly shot Frye over the remarks Frye made about the rapper on the social media site, Cook County prosecutors said at a bond hearing for Dossie on Thursday.

Assistant State’s Attorney Akash Vyas didn’t say when or what 22-year-old Frye had written on Facebook.

Frye died at 4:45 p.m. Saturday at Northwestern Memorial Hospital on Saturday, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 1400 block of West Farwell, authorities said.

Dossie had asked his friend to drive to the Rogers Park neighborhood as an apparent getaway driver on the afternoon of June 1. Dossie accosted Frye while he was walking in the 7600 block on North Ashland Avenue, authorities said.

Dossie’s friend, who had parked near an alley, heard three to four shots and then saw Dossie jump back into the car with a gun following the shooting, Vyas said.

Dossie demanded that his friend drive away and asked to be dropped off near Glenwood and Pratt, Vyas said.

Surveillance video captured an armed Dossie running from an alley towards Frye and shooting, Vyas said.

The footage also caught the license plate of the car Dossie was in.

Dossie was arrested on Tuesday after police officers saw him get out of an Albany Park apartment and into a car. They followed and arrested him in the 3900 block of West Montrose Avenue.

Dossie is a sophomore at Truman High School, Assistant Public Defender Sandra Bennewitz said in court.

He is also a member of the Insane Cutthroat Gangsters, a faction of the Gangster Disciples, according to his arrest report.

Judge Donald Panarese Jr. ordered Dossie held in lieu of $1 million bail Thursday for attempted murder and aggravated battery with a firearm. Details on upgraded charges after Frye’s death weren’t immediately available Sunday.

Young Pappy was not signed to a record label, but his song “Killa” and “Fanteo Freestyle,” has thousands of views on YouTube.

The 19-year-old had previously been the intended target in at least two shootings that left bystanders dead before he was killed on May 29th.

A homeless man told police he stabbed to death Thomas Sawyer to death because he thought the other homeless man was going to urinate in his makeshift home in an Uptown bus shelter, Cook County prosecutors said.

Ross Feiwell, who stumbled into court mumbling to himself Tuesday, was caught killing Sawyer, 49, on surveillance cameras from a Target store in the 4400 block of North Broadway, Assistant State's Attorney Enrique Abraham said.

"Lies," Feiwell, 58, said as Abraham described how Feiwell allegedly killed his rival Sunday night.

Ross Feiwell | Chicago Police

Ross Feiwell | Chicago Police

Feiwell was setting up his "house" when Sawyer approached him with a wooden pole, Abraham said.

Feiwell, armed with a metal chain, warned Sawyer to "steer clear" before the two men started fighting around the bus shelter, Abraham said.

After Feiwell was able to move the wooden stick away from Sawyer, he allegedly stabbed him in the neck. Feiwell then hit Sawyer with the stick while he was on the ground lying in a pool of blood, Abraham said.

Feiwell wiped the blood from the knife and put the knife in his suitcase, Abraham said. Police arrived and recovered all the weapons and a bloody rag, he said.

"I was protecting my house," Feiwell allegedly told police. "He was going to piss in my house."

Feiwell was convicted of attempted murder in 1986 for hitting a house guest with a hatchet and trying to strangle him. He also was convicted of trying to escape from custody while awaiting for trial on that case.

When Abraham detailed how Feiwell attacked his previous victim and stole his Cadillac, Rolex watch and $200, Feiwell screamed out, "It was a homosexual sex game!"

Feiwell, who was dressed in a paper gown, believes the "Illuminati" are after him and is seeking a Rabbi to help him, assistant public defender Marijane Placek said.

Judge Adam Bourgeois Jr. ordered Feiwell held without bail. The judge also ordered Feiwell be treated at Cermak Hospital while in custody. "I will be judged by a higher power," Feiwell told Bourgeois.

Feiwell also made a mention of Anita Hill and Kathy Bates' performance in the film "Misery."

As he was being led away by sheriff's deputies after his hearing, Feiwell accused another assistant public defender of being the devil and a member of the Illuminati.
